High Temperature Thermochemistry Lab (led by Prof. In-Ho Jung) is selected as the “Hyundai Steel’s Special Sponsored Laboratory” for Hydrogen application technology development. Carbon neutral is one of urgent issues to be resolved in steel industry. To this end, Hyundai Steel financially sponsors the research activities of Prof. Jung and exchanges the personnel for research and development. The signing ceremony was held on August 31 with the attendance of many key members including the head of Research Center and director of Carbon neutral research department from Hyundai Steel.

The Marquis Award is presented to the author or authors of the paper on the research, engineering, or plant practices relating to manufacturing in ceramics and glass published in the prior calendar year (2020) in a publication of the SOCIETY, which is judged to be of greatest value to the members and to the industry. The paper “Designing environment-friendly chromium-free Spinel-Periclase-Zirconia refractories for Ruhrstahl Heraeus degasser, published in the December 2020 issue of the Journal of the American Ceramic Society has been selected to receive this year’s honor.

Mr. MinSuk Kang received an excellence award for his oral presentation at “2021 Korean Society of Metals and Materials Spring Conference”, organized by the Korean Institute of Metals and Materials. It was held from 28 April 2021 ~ 30 April 2021 at Welly Hilly Park

As part of the MOLTEN 2021 International conference (Feb. 22~25), FactSage workshop was held virtually on Feb. 15~19. In this workshop, FactSage software was instructed and many real case study problems in pyrometallurgy were solved using the software.

As this workshop was held in virtual format, in particular, more than 80 participants from Asia, Middle East, Europe, America, Africa, and Australia participated in the workshop and all satisfied by the workshop program. This workshop was instructed by Profs In-Ho Jung and Marie-Aline Van Ende who are the core developer of the software.

Annual FactSage workshop in Korea was also held virtually in Feb. 3~5 with more than 120 participants. This annual Korean workshop has been continued since 2005, and educated more than 1100 students and researchers so far.
